  1. Take a few deep breaths before your event to calm your nerves and prepare yourself mentally. It will also help you focus.

  2. If you’re feeling extra nervous, you can review a few questions to use as conversation starters and icebreakers.

  3. You should always stand when being introduced. It’s a way to show respect to whom you’re meeting.  It also creates a positive first impression.

  4. Always introduce the more senior person first. For example: “Mr. Musk, I’d like to introduce you to my friend, James”.

  5. When conversing with others, you should never interrupt; always let others finish their thoughts completely unless it is extremely urgent. You wouldn’t want someone else to interrupt you mid-sentence, either.

  6. Networking events’ dress codes are usually cocktail or business casual. You can refer to our dress code guidelines here.

  7. Always be kind and respectful to others. You never know how one gesture can impact someone’s day.

Most importantly, don’t forget to look people in the eyes and smile! It’s a sincere way of making a connection.
